Cifrotil (Ciprofloxacin 500 mg)
For the use only of a Registered Medical Practitioner or a Hospital or a Laboratory.

CIPROFLOXACIN TABLETS USP

Composition

Each film coated tablet contains
Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 500 mg.

Actions

CIFROTIL has a unique mode of action. It blocks both subunits of DNA gyrase and disrupts DNA functions leading to the death of bacteria. The total destruction of bacterial DNA by CIFROTIL does not allow the emergence of plasmids. Ciprofloxacin does not promote plasmid-borne resistance and rapidly eliminates R plasmids. Chromosomal mutation is also rare. Ciprofloxacin exerts a unique post-antibiotic effect for a prolonged period (exceeding 4 hours). Thus, it continues to prevent bacteria from rapid re-growth even when the concentrations are below the MICs.

Microbiology

CIFROTIL is active against E.coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Salmonella and Shigella spp., enteropathogenic E.coli, Y.enterocolitica, V.cholerae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, N.gonorrhoeae, H.influenzae, I , -N.Menii,yiYJis,-Staphgiococcur aurens; --Streptoeeeeus -pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Listeria monocytogenes and otherorganisms.
